Make-Up for the Groom

man facial

Just like the bride, the groom wants to look his best on his wedding day and there is no reason why in this day and age a man cannot wear make-up to achieve this.

To Achieve a Healthy Glow, a Groom can use any of the Following on the Day:

  • Exfoliator and Toner: As part of the regular skin regime the exfoliator should be used first in an effort to remove any dead cells from the skin following which a toner is then applied which will cleanse the skin and shrink the pores giving you a tight feeling across the face. This should be part of your weekly routine.
  • Moisturiser: Applied to the skin to make it softer and keep it hydrated this should be added after the exfoliator and toner. It is also worth considering buying one with a good SPF factor if you are planning on being outside during the ceremony or reception.
  • Foundation: Used to even out the skin tone over the whole of your face and neck giving you a more natural look. This also comes in a variety of creams and liquids and is great for hiding any red patches left over from shaving.
  • Concealer: Designed to keep your face looking fresh, hide bags under the eyes and cover up any imperfections such as spots or acne scaring this usually comes in a liquid form but is also available in creams and powders. Use a concealer you find easy to apply and one that of course matches your skin tone. Use your chin as a guide for which shade suits you best.
  • Tanning Products: There is a huge variety of products available allowing you to self apply creams and lotions designed to give your skin a darker tone than normal.
  • Eyeliner: This is of course optional as many men would not want to wear eyeliner but it is used to define the eyes and can even be used to darken eyebrows in order to make them stand out more.
  • Lip Balm: A groom wants to be able to kiss their new bride with soft and moist lips so a lip balm should be added regularly to avoid dryness and cracked lips.

Male make-up should be simple but enhancing, designed to show off best features. Many men feel that wearing make up would make them less masculine but in fact, the vast majority of Hollywood stars wear make-up when attending large social events, as well as when they are making a movie. If applied correctly any make-up worn by the groom probably wouldn't even be noticed.

Ensure that you test the products a few weeks before the wedding day to ensure you have no allergy reaction to any of them. The last thing a groom needs to be is all red and patchy on his wedding day.

Skin Care

Women all over the world have a regular skin care routine that they follow every day and over the last few years more and more men are doing the same thing. There is no stigma involved in a man buying a good skincare product for himself.

Over fifty million pounds is currently spent in the UK by men alone on skin care products and grooming items. Many years ago it was fashionable for men to wear make-up in their every day life but this usually consisted of white powder on their faces with perhaps some blusher and maybe the odd beauty mark here and there but as yet, there are not many make-up products specifically designed for men in the market.

More and more men are however using products designed to give them a healthier look and in fact sixty seven percent of men under the age of forty have a regular skin regime. Men are also taking just as long to get ready than women now that they have included a skin care routine into their preparations.

If a groom hasn't already done so, they should begin a skin care regime a few months before the wedding day.

Any of the make-up applied to a man's face should of course be done after shaving. A groom should shave the day of the wedding and to avoid any cuts or nicks should put a hot towel around his face and use plenty of shaving foam/gel.

Other Points to Consider

  • There are of course other features a man should remember when looking for the perfect look. Following are a few points of advice on them:
  • A massage is a great way of relaxing your muscles and getting the blood flowing under the skin making it look healthy.
  • Get your hair cut a couple of weeks before hand and test out any styling products you are thinking about using.
  • Make your hands look nice by have a manicure a day or two before, ensuring of course that you don't start working in the garden the next day. There is nothing nicer than seeing a man with clean, well manicured nails.
  • Most men will not want to look like a bushy eye browed caveman so it is worth looking into the possibility of plucking a few hairs here and there or even trimming them down with a good eyebrow trimmer.

It is important to remember that make-up is not exclusively for women. Men who wish to wear make-up should practice well in advance of the day and ensure to apply any during natural day light – after all, the last thing a groom needs is to look like a clown while standing at the alter.
