The Honeymoon

honeymoon

My husband and I hadn't been abroad for a holiday in five years while we were saving for the wedding. For he and I the thing we were most looking forward to about be married was going on the honeymoon. We both had our own ideas about what we wanted from the honeymoon. He wanted to relax and I wanted to explore. So we made a compromise, we had two holidays in one!

Tell us where you went on honeymoon!

In total we went away for three weeks, two of which were spent touring eastern Canada and the other spent having fun relaxing in Disney world. We both had the holiday of a lifetime. It wasn't cheap, but that's why we had been saving for so long, however we still managed to save money on various aspects of the holiday.

When you are planning your honeymoon destination there are several important things you should consider.

  • Think about what time of year you are getting married. Will the weather in your chosen honeymoon destination be what you want at that time of year?
  • Visit the travel agents and find out as much information as possible on your chosen destination.
  • Many tour operators offer honeymoon packages, which save you time planning your own itinerary, or can offer you a tailor-made vacation.
  • Know your budget and don't be tempted to exceed it.

Honeymoon Preparation

Once you have decided on your honeymoon location and the type of holiday you want, you should then turn your mind to preparation, for both before your leave and for during your honeymoon.

Here is some advice :

  • Arrange to have any vaccinations done two to three months before, if required.
  • Remember to update your passport with your married name at least three months before your wedding.
  • Contact the travel agent one month before your wedding day to confirm your travel arrangements.

  • If your hiring a car aboard check what you are and are not covered for. It would be worth taking out CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) Excess cover, although this will add to the cost of your insurance, but if you don't pay for it and you do have an accident, it will cost you financially far more, and you will wish you had taken it out.
  • Start packing for your honeymoon the week of your wedding day; don't save it until the last minute.
  • Make yourself up a little first aid kit of travel sick tablets, head ache tablets, plasters, insect repellent, indigestion tablets, suntan lotion, after sun.
  • Remember to wax you bikini line girls.
  • Take your marriage certificate with you as many honeymoon packages offer upgraded rooms, free bottles of champagne and meals to couples on their honeymoon, provided they can prove they have just got married.
  • Try and book your honeymoon to start at least one day after the wedding. This will allow you the time to relax and enjoy your wedding day rather than rushing off to catch your flight.
  • Don't forget to pack your camera and buy plenty of film.
