Honeymoon on a Cruise
If you are looking for a honeymoon that takes away all the hassle of planning your travel itinerary, finding great places to eat, meeting new friends and seeing lots of different countries at the same time then a cruise could be just what you are looking for.
Cabin suites with private balconies, numerous bars and lounges, night clubs, theatres and casino’s can all be found on some of the cruise liners that sail in and around Mediterranean, exotic and European Countries.
There is no shortage on what to do while on board. With a choice of a different show every night, fitness centres, health and beauty spa’s, cinemas, shops and deck games you will not be given a chance to be bored.
Each evening the ship will sail to a different destination while you are sleeping and you will have the chance to stretch those ‘land legs’ while exploring on your own or going on one of the many organised excursions that are planned for each port of call.
The difference between going on your own or joining a group is:
- Organised parties start very early in the mornings and they choose where you go and where you eat.
- Exploring on your own gives you that bit of freedom to go where you want, eat where you want and walk at your own pace.
When choosing your cruise you need to decide on which countries you want to visit. There is a vast array of different locations cruise ships stop at and you can go on a mini cruise for a few days, a week, two or more!
Honeymoon Cruise - Advantages and Disadvantages
The advantages of going on a cruise for your honeymoon are:
- Package priced. Your accommodation, food and entertainment (and on some of your drinks) are all paid for before you begin your honeymoon.
- You only have to unpack and pack your suitcases once.
- Eliminates the need to carry money while on board.
- Members of cruise staff are on hand to pamper to your every need.
- Saves money on taxi fares finding different locations to eat.
- You take your own pace as and when you wish.
- Visiting many more places without having to drive and saving time.
The disadvantages:
- Eliminates the choice of visiting countries inland
- Little or no interaction with local people or their customs.
- No chance of finding that little romantic out of the way place to eat.
- Exploring the areas will be limited with time.
- Be prepared to only be alone when in your own cabin.
- Meals and dinner assignments may not suit you if you do not like schedules that some liners can set. (There is usually always the choice of light meals, room service or a food court if you miss your seated meal time).
Budget or Luxury Cruise Cabin
The type of cabin, your preferred destinations and of course the cost of your honeymoon will be the three main considerations you need to look at before you decide that this really is the dream honeymoon for you both.
Depending on the cost from budget to luxury your cabin can be cramped or spacious and you really need to double check you are not going to go ‘cabin crazy’ after a couple of days because you wont just be able to pack up the car and drive back home.
Cruise liners will offer cabins with or without windows or balconies and this again is something you need to plan ahead if you can live without light in your cabin for a week or more. Remember this is going to be your ‘home’ for the time you spend in it and you want your honeymoon to be remembered for the good times, not the squabbling times of moaning because you never thought to check if your cabin had a window!
Cruises can sometimes be aimed at certain age groups so remember to check if the itinerary is aimed at young or old or a mixed group. Adrenaline driven activities will be on offer for the younger aged groups with a more flexible dining option while the older cruiser will be given the more relaxing and tradition itinerary.
Evenings on a Cruise Ship
Most liners have from 4 to 8 restaurants on board from Cordon Bleu to eastern there will certainly be no shortage of fine dining on offer.
After dinner you can find one of the elegant cocktail bars to unwind or meet new friends, take in a show or have a flutter in the casino.
Certain luxury cruise packages will offer romantic moonlight meals for two where you can dine on your own candlelit private veranda at your own table secluding from other diners. What a better way to sit under the stars toasting each other as man and wife.
