Routes. There are three routes available which are:
Kicking Horse Route: Vancouver to Banff or Calgary

Fraser Canyon: At the end of the Coast Mountains is this natural marvel canyon which has sides reaching up to 600 metres and stretches to the town of Hope.- Hell’s Gate: A mesmerising sight of water flowing through the narrowest point of the Fraser River with up to 200 million gallons of water pouring through the ravine every minute.
- Rogers Pass: Named after Major AB Rogers who discovered the tunnels while working for the Canadian Pacific Railway, this pass runs through the Selkirk Mountains.
- Spiral Tunnels: Constructed in 1907 and taking almost two years to complete these tunnels meander through Cathedral Mountain and Mount Ogden.
- Stoney Creek Bridge: This scenic bridge spans 484 feet above the creek.
- The Last Spike: This is the last railroad spike of the final construction of the coast to coast railway line. It is called the Stone Cairn of Craigellachie named after the birthplace of the man who drove it into the ground Donald Smith.
Yellowhead Route: Vancouver to Jasper.
Following the lowest pass through the Rockies this is the route where you are more likely to see some of the wild animals such as the black bear, big horn sheep and moose. Taking in the breathtaking sights of valleys and snowy peaks with highlights that may include:
- Albreda Glacier: This mass of ice is a spectacular vision of colours as a result of the compression of ice.
- Fraser River: The fifth largest river in Canada and the longest in British Columbia and named after Simon Fraser.
- Jasper National Park: This Park spans over four thousand miles and is the largest park in the Rockies, it includes lakes, waterfalls and springs as well as plenty of wildlife.
- Mount Robson: The highest mountain within the Canadian Rockies reaching over twelve thousand feet and surrounded by Berg Lake and Kinney Lake.
- Pyramid Falls: With the water falling 300 feet over this superlative waterfall you get so close to it that on a windy day you might feel the fine spray on your face.
Fraser Discovery Route: Whistler to Jasper
This is the newest route for the company which offers discovery and adventure with landscapes not often seen, the chance to again see some of the country’s wildlife in their natural habitat and of course the romance of travelling by train.

- Anderson & Seton Lakes: These two breathtaking lakes were once joined together but were separated by a landslide.
- Cariboo Plateau: This glaciated volcanic plateau is a mile thick and is part of the Fraser Plateau.
- Rocky Mountain Trench: Located in the longest valley in North America this trench extends to almost a thousand miles and is a prominent physiographic feature.
- Tête Jaune Cache: Named after a man with sandy coloured hair who was a fur trapper and an interpreter for European traders. This man would use this cache as a hiding place for his catches until he was able to come and collect them.

What Weather Can You Expect
As the western provinces cover a huge area the weather varies considerably. The best weather is around July to September with highs reaching twenty-eight degrees Celsius and the lows in the Rockies around April time of nine degrees Celsius.
Differences in temperature all depend on the season and the time of day so the best advice is to bring clothing to cover you for all weathers.
