The Marriage Proposal

When you meet someone that you are ready to marry, and spend the rest of your life with, you have to decide when and where to pop the question.

Where did you propose?

Let us know where you proposed, or were proposed to, so that we can place details here and maybe give inspiration to others!

"I was proposed to whilst on holiday in West Wales. We were booked to go to dinner in The Shed (a fabulous seafood restaurant in Porthgain) and went for a walk down the harbour to pass the time.

It was a lovely evening, and the sound of the water was really calming as Paul (my fiancé) pulled out a speech he had prepared in French and got down on one knee. I was totally overwhelmed and the ring was so beautiful, I couldn't say Yes for ages... then said "Oui, if we're doing it in French!".

It was a lovely evening and I couldn't stop smiling over dinner. " Rhiannon

"It doesn't sound that romantic what made the time special was the song as every time i hear whitney houston song i will always love you it reminds me of phill proposing what was also romantic we were together as teenagers and always said we would marry one day we split then got together again 22yrs later so finally 25yrs on we are to marry a nice way to propose also is up in a hot air balloon that was phill's idea but due to british weather it wasn't possible so he couldn't wait any longer and asked then on christmas day." "We own a bar and we have a one man band that plays on Friday nights. Well Scott talked him into making up a song about us and our relationship and had him play it for me. He had gotten me a necklace last year on my birthday and I wanted it engraved but he never got around to doing it. Anyways it was 2 days before my birthday when Joey *the singer* called me and Scott up to the stage. I thought he was going to sing me Happy Birthday *the reason my family was there * but instead he sang this song about us. So sweet.

Well the chorus was "maybe someday he'll get that necklace engraved"....my necklace was hanging on his guitar....at the end of the song he told me to grab my necklace *I didn't even notice it was there* and as I grabbed it Scott hit one knee....the necklace said "Marry Me? 7-7-07" I was so shocked....of COURSE I said YES!!! Hands down it was the BEST day of my life!!!!"Samantha

"Me and my boyfriend had been together since we were 12..one night when we were about 14 he took me down the river near his house at night and all the stars were out it looked lovely..it was the first time he told me he loved me i remember he was shaking.

Last week he took me down again (we are now 18). He had bought at least a hundred tea light candles and scatted them around the same stone we had sat on that night and wispered in my ear that he loved me...it was so romantic then he knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

Off corse i said yes. It was amazing and so romantic because it was so personal."Abby

"Out shopping one day with my parents, my mum turns turns to me outside a jewellers and asks, "if you where ever going to get married, what ring would you have?". Being a bit ditzy, i thought nothing of it and happily browsed through engagement rings for a while until i saw THE RING. "That is the perfect ring" i announced, and for a laugh, decided to try it on. Unbeknown to me, my guy had already asked my dad for my hand and had roped them into his plans. The ring fit perfectly! i laughed about it and made them promise to never mention it to my guy incase he thought i was hinting!

A couple of weeks later my guy announced that he was taking me out for a meal, it was all booked, and to dress up. We went to Canary Wharf and had a drink in a nice bar. We then went to the restaurant and was told that it was closed for a private function! My guy explained that he had sent an email about what he had planned, while i waited outside, and they promised him they would help out. They sent us to a restaurant they had just phoned and assured my guy it was very romantic. We got there and it was a trendy bar restaurant. He was so disappointed, although i had no idea why! We had a lovely meal and apparently Tony had decided to propose outside.

We finished, left got outside and it was raining! He looked miserable. We ended up walking in the rain past a beautiful fountain. We stopped and Tony began telling me how much i mean to him. He then got down on one knee and pulled out a ring box he had been carrying around in his sock all night! And there it was, THE RING. I cryed so much he thought i was going to say no! eventually i had managed to scream out yes and everyone walking passed stopped and clapped!

It was the most amazing night of my life! He told me it had been hell for him up until the point when i said yes! Were hoping to get married in August 2009."Jodie Cripps

"We went to Ibiza for New Year with my fiance's family, and the night before New Year he kept going on about going for a walk. So we left his family at a bar and went for a walk along the beach. And then he started telling me how much he loved me (which I wasn't listening to coz I was thinking "hesgonnaproposehesgonnapropose") and then got on one knee, pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him. I squeaked out a yes and started crying (why do we always cry?!). I totally hadn't expected it as before we went away I'd been bugging him about proposing and he never (it seemed) got round to going shopping. :)" Sarah

"I was proposed to on holiday in Turkey. My now fiancee and I were in our hotel room having drinks when we started feeling a bit peckish. He offered to go down to the shop for some crisps so off he went! After about an hour I was starting to get worried as the shop was only downstairs but he didn't have his phone on him so I could not contact him. As I was putting my shoes on to go find him there was a knock on the door. There he was clutching his chest and wincing with pain.

He stumbled through the door and fell onto our bedroom floor, I asked him what the matter was and if I should get medical help. He said all he wanted was one thing. Still panicking I asked what that was and he replied."You to marry me!" and produced the ring which he had bought while he was supposed to be buying snacks!

I burst into tears of happiness (and partly anger as I'd been so worried) and accepted straight away!!" Sophie Garner

"My husband to be (hee) proposed to me on our local beach at Sennen. We had a bbq and as the sun was setting Mat got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was perfect and sooo romantic!!! hee x" Katie Barke

"Well, i went for a shower while i left my fella and mum downstairs, wen i came bak they were both teary-eyed. so we both went to his mums house, when we went in our bedroom he couldnt stop smiling, he finally got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, i couldnt stop smiling it was the happiest day of my life! it turns out when i went for a shower my partner asked my mum for permission to marry me! so romantic!" Leah

"I had no idea, my fiance had found the ring, bought it and took me to Madrid for the day - he could not find anywhere romantic enough to propose though, too many people everywhere and before we knew it we were back at the airport. He bought some champagne at duty free, we got home after midnight, but he started lighting candles and opened the champagne. I wondered why he was doing this, until he got down on one knee with a gorgeous ring and proposed. I was so surprised. Best day of my life so far. " Joanne Batty

"Christmas 2005. We had left our baby with my mum and headed to the pub Christmas eve to see in midnight (also celebrating a Xmas birthday...) After midnight, my boyfriend asked if we could take a walk up to the cliffs. In my tipsy state, I refused, I thought he was going to push me off for being a nag (he knew my mobile had just run out of power so I couldn't call for help)

Ridiculous thought really, he wouldnt hurt a fly and loves me very much, but I know what a pain I could be. So, on the seafront, by a bench (and a dog poop bin) in the streetlight, he got down on one knee and proposed to me. Needless to say, I said yes and felt like such a berk. We returned a couple of weeks ago, I gave him back my ring so he could do it as he originally planned!!" Chrissie

"ok, my boyfriend, took me to yellowstone national park, then we went to dinner, ate great food, and when it came to dessert I ordered ice cream, so he had the people that worked there put my ring on dessert, so they put a toothpick type thing in my ice cream with ring on it, I was getting tipsy, didnt see it till he said u see anything, then did and he got down and asked me to marry him, it was so sweet best day of my life..now cant wait to be his wife." Missy

"My fiance and I met in marching band and spent three years together in the drumline. At our final on-field rehearsal before our biggest performance of the year, the drum majors screamed for us to take our places to run the show again. I got in my place on the field with my bass drum on and he was standing next to me. With the whole band watching (as it had been carefully planned with the band director), he asked me to take off my drum and proposed to me on the field.

It was so romantic and amazing having all of our friends there. After I said yes and we hugged and kissed, everyone cheered and practice broke for the night. :)" Lauren

"We were planning a trip to England for some time. My soon to be mother in law is originally from Ipswich and we intended to visit London and then Suffolk County to meet the his family. My fiance proposed to me at the very top of the London Eye. We arrived that Saturday morning from the states, dropped our luggage at the hotel and headed straight into the city.

We entered Westminster station just as Big Ben was striking 12 noon. We took a ton of pictures and waited in line at the Eye. He proposed at the very top while over looking the city. I was shocked! I was speechless until I blurted out yes! I cried, we kissed, it was the most romantic day of my life! We are getting married in Italy in May 08! " Courtney

"6 months ago my boyfriend asked me how I would like to be proposed to. I told him at the top of the eiffel tower - surely any girls dream. I had completely forgotten about it until 2 weeks ago when we were sitting in our flat watching tv. Tom jumped up and went into the bedroom, when he came back he was holding a present - too big for just an ring.

I ripped open the paper and inside the box was small statue of the eiffel tower - with a diamond ring over the top! Tom got down on one knee and said 'I know it's not the real tower, but you did say at the top. Will you marry me?' I couldn't speak and I think Tom started to get a bit worried when I hadn't said anything. When i came to my senses I said yes and now the only thing Tom's worried about is how much the wedding in going to cost!!" Lyndsey

"The ring was picked and my candles packed I arranged for my wife to be to be sent home from work, upon her exit of the building a limo was waiting to take her to Manchester airport where I was waiting (for a long time I might add) I had already packed her bags with help from my sister, with her's and mine passport in hand we boarded.

By this point she new the destination but not the real surprise. Oh by the way this was Valentines Day! I timed the flight so we would fly in at night into Charles de' gal (i think that's the spelling) this way the whole of Paris would be lit up.

After our first night in the hotel we set off exploring, (well kind of - I had already studied routes to take her so we would end up at the Efile tower) Once we "somehow" ended up there we qued up in the crisp cold of Paris waiting to walk up those steps.

After we went to the top to see the sights we went to a cafe on the second level, I took her hand and led her to a secluded part I eyed up earlier and presented the box and asked her to be my wife.

Of course she said yes!

We then took a boat trip by which time it was dusk and the tower had the spotlights on, back at the hotel whilst she showered I littered the room with candles I brought and used a lighter I bought from a subway seller of trinkets.

Needless to say there was a fire but there were no flames" Michael Harper

"I didn't get the whole down on one knee proposal but he was quick off the mark. Only a few weeks into our relationship we were at his friends engagement parties and he hold me close and says "so can we have one of these cheesy 80's engagement parties too?" I just looked and said "we'd have to be engageged first". And so soon we were and the wedding is in 12 weeks. " Kitty

"My Fiance and i were on holiday in Egypt, Sharm el Sheikh, on my 18th birthday we went to a lovely italian restuarant, we has our own waiter and they even made me a personalised cake which my fiance had specially order a few days previous! we then walked down to the hotels private beach where we sat looking at the sea and stars.

He told me to close my eyes, so i did. When i opened them he was down on one knee crying and asked me to marry him! i couldnt answer him as i was in tears my self but i did manage "yes you know i will. " Kelly Jarvis

"We were leading an expedition through the Jotunheim, Norway and about half way through the 3 week trip we climbed Galdhoppigen (highest mountain in N Europe). At the top he proposed - how could I say no! We never told the group we were leading until we got back to the UK so it was really hard to try to let our parents know and not to have too large a grin! " Annelise Bjornseth

"We were on our way to Portsmouth and we had decided to stop at mine and my Grandparents Favourite place, Avon Country Park. My Grandparents have both passed away so I like to go there to remember them and think about times we spent together. We had eaten our sandwiches and went for a short walk to walk them off when all of a sudden he pulled me backwards got down on one knee (in the dirt!!) and asked me to marry him.

Of course I said yes!

Avon Country Park is so special to me for so many reasons and he made it even more special that day. " Laura Hodgson
