deap sea fishingAs an alternative to the usual paintballing or trips to Amsterdam to celebrate your stag night or weekend, why not try your hand at some deep sea fishing!

You've heard the stories about a man catching a fish and how it was "this big" and with deep sea fishing, this does not have to be an over exaggeration at all, you actually might catch something that is "this big" and you will have the photographs to prove it.

You've all seen the programmes on the television showing celebrities fishing for large fish or sharks and the strength they need to reel them in.  You get drawn into their excitement and feelings of disappointment should the catch get away and if you have watched these shows and thought to yourself, I could do that, then this is definitely the activity for you.

The Deep Sea Fishing Event

These types of fishing trips will usually extend over a few hours and will include the hire of the boat as well as the rods, tackle, waterproofs and bait that you will need and you will be accompanied by a qualified fishing instructor as well as the skipper driving the boat.

The excursions will pick you up from a set location where the skipper, after going over a few safety procedures, will take you out to a well known spot for fishing and after your preparation it is a chance to then sit and relax perhaps with a nice cold drink, chat to your mates and wait for the fish to bite.  This type of expedition is very dependant upon the weather as you will not be able to go out during choppy seas so there is always the likelihood that your trip may be cut short if the weather deteriorates during your jaunt.

Once you have chosen which type of fish you want to fish for on your stag party, be it Barracuda, Halibut, Marlin, Salmon, Sandbass, Sharks (including the Great White), Swordfish or Tuna, then look into the various locations where they can be found and begin your planning.

Deep sea fishing can take place all over the world and can include the following locations:

What Is Deep Sea Fishing?

It involves fishing with lines which have lures secured to them, which are then hook rigged.  The boat travels along at a slow speed and the bait is dragged behind it and hopefully the lure will be enough of an attraction for the fish to bite.

It can be a lot of hard work, particularly if you catch a large one and it can take more than one person to reel it in but it can also be an extremely enjoyable experience, one that you will never forget and after you have recovered you will probably want to do it all over again as soon as possible.

Points to Consider when Deep Sea Fishing on your Stag Party

  • deap sea fishing 3Ask your operator if they organise tours of fishing at night which could be a doubly exciting experience.  Find out whether you are likely to actually catch anything at this time though as you don't want to be disappointed.
  • Book well in advance, especially if you are a large party as you may require more than one or two boats.
  • Deep sea fishing is not generally a good idea during the winter so check the location's season.
  • Does your trip organise lunch for you or will you have to arrange alternative arrangements for that?
  • Don't forget to organise your insurance.
  • Ensure you double check if you are allowed to bring alcohol on the trip or if they will be able to provide it as some don't allow it at all.
  • If you are not able to swim, ensure the company is aware of this.
  • If you think you may suffer with sea sickness, before the event try to avoid any greasy or spicy foods that may exasperate the situation.  When on the boat, try to focus on the horizon and not on small objects around you and drink plenty of water.  Travel sickness pills before you leave in the morning are always a good idea too.

It is recommended that you take with you, regardless of the weather, some warm clothing as well as gloves and hats as it can get quite cold out in the sea.  Make sure you have some sensible boots or shoes (remember that these will be getting wet) and consider taking a towel or even a change of clothes with you.  Some sun tan lotion and a pair of sunglasses might also come in handy when you are out in the open sea.

Remember that some people may not be able to participate in the fishing as regulations do apply to things such as height, weight and age etc.

Whether you want to arrange your trip for first thing in the morning or last thing at night, this will definitely be one experience you will never forget.  Being out on the ocean waves and the anticipating of catching these large fish will have your heart pounding and your palms sweating, especially when you are holding on to that rod for dear life.

Keep the camera handy so that no one will be able to tell the story about the one that got away!
