Wedding Cravat

There are two different ways in which the groom can wear a cravat, as a traditional Self-tie cravat or  a Scrunchie cravat / Ruchie tie.

How to tie a Cravat for your wedding

cravat 1

1. Allow the cravat to drape around your neck so that the longer end is on the right.

cravat 2

2. Cross the long end over the front of the shorter end from right to left.

cravat 3

3. Take the longer end up and round behind the shorter end, from right to left.

4. Bring the longer end horizontally across the front of the tie from left to right.

5. Take the longer end up through the neck loop you have created, at this point you can either follow steps 6 and 7 or stop at step 6, depending on which style of cravat you perfer.

6. To achive the traditional self-tie cravat simply bring the long end over the front of the knot. Tighten and secure the knot. Adjust the tie so that its straight and secure the top end with either a cravat pin or a pearl headed corsage pin.

7. However, if you desire a scrunchie cravat / ruchie tie then ignore step 6 and from step 5 thread the long end through the middle of the knot in exactly the same way you would tie a Half Windsor Knot.

Adjust the tie so that it sits straight, and complete the look with a scrunchie tie pin.

Loosen the Cravat

To untie any of the knots repeat each of the steps, but in the reverse order. This is to prevent your tie from becoming distorted.

For other common knots see the links below.
