Help Needed From Stressed Out Brides!

Hey there, this sounds like a bit of a funny request, but I am looking to chat with brides who are feeling really stressed. I am writing a book for brides about how to combat wedding stress through different activities and wanted to hear directly from brides. The thing I am really interested in is what part or aspect of wedding planning makes you feel the most stressed? I know you are all probably super busy but I would so appreciate a quick message if you have the time! Good luck to everyonr and I am positive you will all have the most amazing wedding day! :-)

Are You Having A Humanist Wedding?

Are you having a humanist, nonreligous, secular or atheist wedding?

Hi All,

I am a researcher and am interested in interviewing and speaking to people who are planning non religious ceremonies. The work is part of my PhD looking into atheism/humanism/nonreligion in Britain and want to look at how people organise weddings "without God" or without a religion traditional to your upbringing or culture.

Would you be happy to speak to me? If so please message me and I can get in touch with more information and perhaps arrange to meet or chat.

THANK YOU
My sister and her long time boyfriend for 8 years will take their vows anytime next year. Most likely, it will fall on the month of June. Of course, as her sister I am also excited for her big day that would considered as her momentous day ever. Our main concern is the preparations and since we our both single and don't have any idea for the wedding preparations we landed on this amazing site which our friend also referred to us. Glad to be here!
Anyone for from this amazing community would have a heart to give us some helpful and expert advice for the preparations from small things and so on? We would love to hear something good from you and we would appreciate it for the rest of our lives.
Thank you in advance! More power and blessings to all of you!

Hi all,

I would really like some advice. I am no good at design and decor.

We have recently booked our venue - Oakwood House Hotel in Maidstone, Kent.
I have just booked an appoinment with the florist and she has asked me to come with more definite ideas of colours and what I want.

So lets see if this is going to work. Here come some pics of the hotels decor
This is the Garden Room which we will use if its too cold or wet.
I was thinking gold, but not sure if it will be too much in the reception room.
Any thoughts?

I wanted the rose garden blue one but they've stopped making it and there is none in my size, so I was thinking of getting the Chantilly White dress. Bit inappropriate or not?
Really flatters my curves, which is good. Iv had to leave it in the shop until I get alterations next year and didn't take any photos!!! If anyone else wore this dress to their wedding, I would love to see some photos, front, side and especially the back which is my fav part with the lace-up. So excited about my wedding! Xx thanks xx

Wedding Videography Tips #1

Top tip if you are having your day filmed as well as photographed, is to always look at your photographer rather than your videographer. Ignore your videographer as your behaviour looks much more natural, but your photographs, especially your official photographs look better if you look at the photographers camera!

Poor Service from Dress Shop

I went to [Company Name Removed] in Manchester in February with two of my bridesmaids to try on dresses. The second dress I tried on I fell in love with and whilst it was £600 over my budget I felt this was 'the one'.

Obviously me being a good size 18 with a G cup bra this size 14 sample that I tried on was made to fit on me by the very experienced Lady. The dress I chose had a corset type bodice on top; I asked again and again if I went ahead and ordered it that the one I received would fit my properly; any girl with a big chest would have the same concerns; I was assured that this is why they take my measurements so that the dress would fit me perfectly. I was also warned not to lose weight as the dress could only be altered in by up to one size. I decided on the same day to buy the dress; this was only the second ever wedding dress I tried but thanks to Lady's persuasion and the offer of a 'that day only' discount I went for it paying out £1325 for my dress.

Over the weekend I thought more about the warning not to lose weight and I decided on the Monday to go back and order everything two inches smaller – thank goodness I did!!!

I was told that my dress would be ready 8 weeks before the wedding and I phoned the shop with 6 weeks to go having not heard anything.
They told me that it would be ready with 4 weeks to go – I expressed concern at this and was told that it was only for a 'pick up' and that I would not need alterations and not to worry.

When it was down to 3 weeks to go and still no dress I was really worried and phoned the shop a few times; I was asked to come in the same week for my fitting. Starting to get stressed to say the least.

I went to the shop for the first fitting; bearing in mind my measurements had been taken and I ordered the smaller size i was confident it would fit. Lady the original sales lady did the fitting. The dress DID NOT FIT AT ALL on the bodice; it was gaping so much i could put both of my hands down the front and this was when it was tied to the very tightest at the back. I was gutted but Lady assured me that it would be altered to fit me 'perfectly; I then had to pay an additional £180 for these alterations!!!

The following week – 2 weeks to wedding – I returned for the fitting to be met by a completely new lady; Lady was nowhere to be seen. We got the dress on and I explained my concerns about it being SO ill fitting; this lady explained that she had never seen me in the dress so didn't know what the original fit was. I stated that when i ordered it i was assured that it would fit me perfectly. She told me in no uncertain terms that this would not be the case as all dresses are made in a standard C cup!!!!!

I was furious to say the least and really upset. I was NEVER told this when I tried on the dress as clearly taking a G cup I NEVER would have bought it!!!! I believe I was completely missold this dress just so the shop could make a sale. I was devastated. The alterer told me she would do her best to make it fit as best she could but that it WOULD NOT fit me 100%

When i left the shop in tears I phoned [Company Name Removed] head office explained what had happened and was told they would ring back. In the meantime I posted what had happened on the hitched.co.uk website.
After 3 hours and no call back – 2 weeks before my wedding!!! I phoned head office again and they said they would chase it. The alterer then phoned me from the shop and said she promised it would fit me okay. She then phoned back later to ask me to remove my comments from the website; I said I would when i collected the dress and was happy with it.

Turns out [Company Name Removed] and Hitched.co.uk have a better relationship than most as they removed my forum altogether and when i queried this i was told by Hitched.co.uk that their suppliers and advertisers were very important to them and detrimental reviews would be removed!!!!! What happened to free speech??

The following week – 1 week to the wedding I went back to the [Company Name Removed] shop to be met by yet another lady i had never seen before who was quiet snappy and stated she had also never seen the dress on me and couldn't comment on the fit. We put it on and whilst it definitely fit alot better than it had it still didn't fit even remotely properly or comfortably. At this stage I had no choice though but to take the dress.

On my wedding day I wore a £1325 dress that should have been perfect; Instead i had two big air pockets where my G cup boobs should have tried to fit into the C cup that was boned into the bodice. This in turn pushed my boobs down towards my waist ruining the corset affect and making it impossible to sit for any length of time and impossible to eat......

Thanks to [Company Name Removed] my day was ruined in more ways than one and i would discourage any bride from shopping in there. You pay that much for a dress you want the best; what I got was so far from the best it's unreal and I got to pay an additional £180 for the pleasure. DO NOT SHOP HERE!

hey girls

hey am new to this board but here it goes;
we are getting married on the 11 August 2012 in a small church in a small town with not much it in.
we only got in engaged about 4 weeks ago but wanted to move the wedding forward because of my mum illness.
so I got the church book as soon as we know what date we wanted.
we have got the venue book which is a small club house in a small village to with a bar which it what we wanted and also got our DJ booked and ready.
also got my car booked a dark red 1937 Chrysler Kew Deluxe which is really nice, and flowers are sorted to red roses for me and white roses for my bridesmaids
which brings me one to say I have 4 bridesmaids 2 older and to littens their dress when I have found the right ones will be a light red as my dress is white with red dominates on it.
so can U can tell my colour is red lol
I have sorted the suits for the groom and best man they re all ready to go just need the fittings
and the caters are ready to go to lol
so all i need to do now is rings and cake
if there is any thing i have left out plz let me no as i am not very good at weddings lol but am trying my best

Hi, I'm just getting started on plans to get married in June 2013 and i would really like a tiffany themed wedding in terms of colour. The biggest problem at the moment is the wide range colour variations that come back when i say this colour!

If anyone has done this theme and has any pics, stockists for items, centrepiece ideas etc then i would be ever so grateful. So far i can't even seem to get a good colour match for the card to make invites!

I've chosen my dress (Maggie Sottero, Isadora Marie), my bridesmaids (4 adults) and a rough date but the rest i could do with some help with!!

Many thanks

Catholic Church Service - Flowers?

I'm just after a bit of inspiration about church flowers for our wedding.

Our florist has suggested this for the front of the church:

Quote

2 x large and sumptuous pedestals created on hidden trays so you can move @£90 each. These arrangements are 3 feet wide and approx 6 feet high

Now I'm sure these will be lovely, but what else do people think is needed? Something at the door into the church, pew ends, etc?

Any input appreciated!

Church Music - Organ?

Hi, we're getting married in a Catholic Church. So there will be some hymms etc.

The church has a nice big organ, but my fiance Erica isn't a fan of the organ, but what alternatives are there for hymms etc?

We are thinking of having a harpist, but as it's quite a mellow instrument it will be for more quiet times (as guests arrive, during commmunion, signing of register etc).

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks!

Are You Fed Up With Your Wedding Dress In The Wardrobe?

Are you fed up with keeping your wedding dress in the wardrobe ? Or do you know anyone who has been keeping her dress but got really fed up with it ?

I am working on a pilot project of a potential new business in the Bridal wear industry and looking for two participants with a used wedding dress to take part in this project. The essence of this project is to change the short-lived life cycle of a wedding dress by converting the wedding gown into an end product that is most desired by the user. The results will be displayed at Mile end Art Pavilion in mid September.

Please get in touch (removal of email address) for more details if you would like to participate

Infinity Glass Bowl Centerpieces - Help!

Hello all

I've got my heart set on x6 infinity bowls to use as my centerpieces at our wedding next year. For those who don't know it's a posh glass bowl you can put flowers in, turn it upside down, fill it with water, add floating candles - voila!

I have found a seller on ebay who sells 6 for £42.00 (I'm happy with this) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-GLASS-INFINITY-BOWLS-WEDDING-EVENTS-TABLE-CENTERPIECE-/310339254068?pt=UK_Candles&hash=item4841a93734

However, this doesn't include the 'plugs' to stop the water getting out! The same seller lists bowls with plugs for £90.00!! Crazy?!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-GLASS-WEDDING-BOWLS-CANDLES-LILY-FRAGRANCE-FLOWERS-/310339254100?pt=UK_Candles&hash=item4841a93754

Any ideas peeps of where I can find these (uk) or any suggestions.

Much appreciated.

Event Offer, £35Pp 3 Course Meal, Live Entertainment,

Hello, I have an event booking for a brilliant price on the 29th of October (this year) and we can't use it so am looking for someone to take over it. It could be a wedding, special birthday, company event etc

The price we were given was £35 per person it included, 3 course meal (or 2 course cheaper option for kids), live entertainment (choice of acts, we chose 80 tributes but there are things like Dirty Dancing and Abba to choose from), chair covers with bows (there were a few colours to pick from including black and white) and a discount for group bookings on hotel rooms.

It was booked for a charity ball but due to poor ticket sales we have had to cancel the event, £500 was paid from donations which have to be refunded to people but we are only a tiny charity (it would of been our first ball).

I know its very late notice but I thought I would ask around if anyone is interested as I know events, especially weddings normally cost far more than that without things like entertainment and chair covers. If we find someone who would like to take over our booking then the hotel have agreed to return our deposit. They can cater for up to 300 people and didn't give us a minimum amount of people.
I've not been to the hotel myself but a friend has and said it was lovely and the food was very nice.

As I said its on the 29th of October 2011, its at The Pines Hotel in Preston. (Removal of URL)

If you are interested then please let us know on info@postpals.co.uk and the lady we have been speaking to at the hotel is called Jean (the telephone number is on the website).

Thank you,

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I have decided to get wed finally after being engaged since 2005!!

Have set date as 21st July 2012. I have already got lots of ideas on the go..

Colour scheme is violet and pastel blue. My dress is by Alfred Angelo (number 1516 in violet), and my bridesmaids are in Alfred Angelo also (bridesmaid number 6304S in violet with blue pastel trim).

Going to look at the venue tomorrow, but my heart is set on it, so as long as it looks ok in the flesh so to speak then it'll be here http://www.mansionhousehotel.co.uk/

I have some ideas on flowers but not sure so will speak to the florist tomorrow as well..

Centrepieces I'm undeicided on...

I have all these ideas buzzing around in my head I actually want to scream haha!!

I feel like I'm too organised but rather be super organised then not get the things I want because I've left it too late..

Look forward to planning with u all x

Size 8 Flat Bridal Shoes

I have a pair of shoes that I bought for my wedding which sadly didn't fit properly.

http://www.polyvore.com/ivory_aroseyb_flat_bridal_shoe/thing?id=11332373

They are in very good condition - they were worn around the house and office when I was trying to wear them in, but gave up in the end! There are some slight scuffs and wear around the back of the shoe but they are brand new otherwise.

I think they are a very small 8 so I would probably recommend them for someone who is a size 7.

They cost £45 new but I am happy to sell for £25 - they have a bag included so you can carry them around on your wedding day

Personalised Wedding Magazine Idea

Hi there everyone, I was wondering if I could ask your advice on a potential business project my husband and I are looking to start. For our wedding we made a personalised wedding magazine as our favours. My husband is a magazine designer and so he made it look like a Heat-style gossip magazine, but with pictures of us in it instead of pictures of Jordan and the cast of TOWIE!! (REMOVAL OF URL)

What I'm trying to find out is, as a potential idea would any of you be interested in having a magazine made for your big day? As well as working as a favour it could be a great personalised gift for friends and family.

As well as a Heat-style gossip mag we would offer a tabloid newspaper design, a vintage-style chintzy magazine and a high-end fashion magazine a bit like Vogue or Harpers.

The other thing we really want to know is how much to charge? Hypothetically speaking, would £100 deposit plus £2 per magazine sound reasonable? Please give us any feedback as we'd really appreciate your help.

Im thinking against it at the mo as i've seen a nice hair barette thats quite sparkley for the back of my hair, and don't want it to be too much with a tiara too. Also with my heels on, me & Kel will be similar heights & i don't want to appear taller than him.
these are the hairstyles im really drawn to:
