Hi all, we saw a champagne fountian at the weekend, and are thinking of hiring it for our welcome drinks. I'm just struggling to work out how much we'd need to buy to give everyone a decent drink. And if it will work out cheaper then the 3.60 a head the venue wants for 1 glass. I can hite the thing for 175, the venue will charge 50 for corkage and all the glasses. So we have 135 to play with for the actual drinks.

Pimms Cup is usually made 1 part Pimms to 2 parts Lemonade. It can be as much as 3 parts lemonade. It's usually served in a tall glass, but I don't know how much they hold (still waiting for venue to answer about the size glass they would provide). We can also add fruit to the bottom of the fountain, so people can have it in their glass.

So to give 100 people 1 drink each, anyone got any idea how much Pimms I'd need to make up?

Arrghh, it's doing my head in.

Would you be using a standard measure? e.g. 25ml on average per person. That looks to be about 2.5 litres.

70cl bottle is around 15 - Maybe about 4 bottles? That should still leave you with enough money for fruit and lemonade.

Hi, that';s probably a better way of thinking about it, a measure per person, then top up with lemonade. I was trying to work with litres. 1 bottle Pimms, to 2.5 bottles lemonade or something like that. I'm no good at maths!!

I asked them, they just provide it dry though! I really need to know what size glasses they'll provide at the venue, that will be the clincher!

To add to the maths issues, the fountain holds 19 litres. So I also need to work out if it will need topping up. Arrggghhhhhh.

Just had a moment of brain clarity, doesn't happen very often I can tel you.

The Pimms bottle says that the 70cl bottle serves 14. Meaning they are using 50ml measures. So. 50ml x 100 people is 5 litres of pimms, so then I'd need 10 litres of lemonade. Makes 15 litres total, and the fountain holds 19 litres.

Phew time for a lie down me thinks. Can't wait for Aldi to get their cheaper version in stock. We might be able to stretch to 2 glasses each, if I have a person on duty to add more when it gets low.

They don't have their phone numbers on the website, in the phone book, or on the net. I may have to ring the head office tomorrow, and see where they have it. My mum said she'd try and pop in one near her, but there are about 5, so I don't want to send her on a wild goose chase!

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it's deffinatley Pimms o'clock. Mum has just bought the booze for us in Aldi in Cramlington. Yeaaahhhhhhhhhhh.

All the calculations went out the window, on their bottles it says use a 25ml measure, topped up with lemonade. So 50ml per person for 2 drinks, x 100 =5 litres

The bottles are 750ml, so we needed 7, she's bought 8. That's a total of 240 drinks for the total of 40 (lemonade will be about 8 on top). I love a bargain! Lets just hope it tastes nice.

Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the total including the hiring of the fountain is 83 cheaper than the cost of having 1 drink each from the venue.
