do you have any idea how much you have to spend?

our budget sort of worked itself out once we knew how much the big things cost (venues, dresses, rings, food etc) then all the little niggly things (cake, shoes, DJ etc) sort of fall into place. make a guestimate of how much things will cost if you are unsure...always go over the top with the price if you can and then you will be pleasntly suprised if it doesnt cost that much :)

a wedding can cost as much as you want it to. You spend to your limit really, make savings wherever you can, and get the best prices possible. We started with a rough number of daytime guests, then found 3 or 4 great venues, and worked out the cost of the whole day for each. That helped a lot, we estimated everything using the budget planner on Hitched (sorry david) which allows you to put in an estimate for each item, then the actual price, so you can see where you are under or over budget.

then we set up a savings account, and automatically transferred money each month to save up. We did deals with the venue, to get the best possible venue.

We were actually around £1000 under our original budget, and we had so much more for the money. Examples, we had a BBQ main course, no starter, and used our wedding cake as dessert (choccy cheesecake in 3 tiers). We supplied our own drinks, and went to France to buy them with the money we saved on the venue prices, for the same money as 1 bottle at the venue, we had a litre of red, white and rose on the table.

Good luck, it can be done, many girls on here have had beautiful weddings and spend only £4,000.

Weddings can be shocking prices but i think if you write down a list of things you want/need and a rough price of it all that will give u a rough idea of how much it will be.

Our wedding in total including flights/hotel came to around £5000.
We did shop around for things to get the best prices and deals too and also asking for help with things on here has saved us a fortune.
i dont think u need to spend a great deal to have the perfect wedding, ive known people have weddings on a really tight budget and then been to some which have cost thousands and all in all they were both as good as eachothers in my eyes.

Doing a lot yourself pulls the price down. We've made a lot of things and are arranging things ourselves. Also leaving out things that you consider not to be necessary.

We have made/are making:

Invites
Thank you cards
Information sheets
Place setting cards
Table Plan
Favours
Kids entertainment bags
Flowers/bouquets/buttonholes
Tiaras
Dyeing shoes myself too
some jewellery
menus
Bubbles
Centrepieces
Sweetie jars on tables

and loads more!

And we've shopped around and got fab deals on loads of things. Like chair covers and sashes for £1 each (we weren't going to bother otherwise).

Getting married on days other than a Sat or Fri can bring prices down :D We are getting married on a Sunday and only having 40ish people at the service/meal.
