Hi there,

We've just booked our wedding in Ravello on the Amalfi coast in Italy and I'm now in the process of trying to firm out my budget, but with the euro changing on a daily basis literally hundreds can suddenly be added onto my budget in a day without me actually spending any money (and trust me I am usually very good at spending money!!)

We're getting married in July 2012 and I have about half of my budget saved but I'm thinking its going to be difficult to stay on top of it all as half my purchases will be in £'s and the other in €'s.

I was thinking of buying a bulk of euros this summer as I've analysed the charts and the pound seems to peak in July, has anyone done anything similar to this before or could you advise??

Thanks loads!

Aims :)

Hiya,
Can't offer any real advice for you as you seem a lot more clued up than me re foreign currency, but we went through the same thing before our wedding in Italy 2 years ago when exchange rates were getting worse and worse (it was about 1:1 at that time :o ).

We decided in the end to hedge our bets and pay about €5000 up front to the venue incase the rates dropped further in the months before the wedding. As it turns out we made the wrong decision as rates were better at the time of the wedding than when we paid out the deposit, but we felt better that way having split the payments to be part at the better rate and part at the worse than risking having it all at the worse rate.

Of course it's important as it could add hundreds to your costs but if you can, try not to let it worry you too much as whatever you do you will likely end up kicking yourself! Perhaps you could look at it as a bonus if you manage to get the timing just right and treat yourself with the money you saved as opposed to feeling bad if you get the timing wrong and cursing yourself for the money you "lost"?

Hope the plans are coming together well
