This guide is intended as step-by-step instructions for cropping, resizing and uploading your photos to the forum. If you simply want to link a photo from another website, read here >

If your images are already cropped / shrunk to a size that can be uploaded [less than 500kb (0.5mb)], skip to UPLOAD THE CROPPED/SHRUNK IMAGE below.

If you want more storage space and bigger upload limits, read here.

I recommend downloading the Google Pack and installing Picasa for manipulating your images. The Google pack includes other useful software which you can choose to install at the same time.

- Download Google Pack from the link near the top left of this page.*
- Download Google Pack directly from here >
- Download just Google Picasa from here >

These instructions will assume you selected the Google Pack option.
  • Click the 'Download Google Pack' button
  • Click the 'Add or remove software' link
  • Only leave the boxes ticked for the software you want. Leave at least Picasa ticked!
  • Click 'Download Google Pack'
  • Click 'Agree and Download' (assuming you agree to the T&C)
  • Click 'OK' or 'Save File' in the window that appears.
  • Save the file 'Google Updater.exe' to your computer (in a place you will remember!)
  • Double click 'Google Updater.exe' from where you saved it - this will start the install process.
  • You may get a warning asking if you want to open the file - say 'OK'
  • You should see an 'Installation Complete' message - select 'Run Picasa'
At this point you tell Picasa where to look for your photos. You can either let it scan your whole PC, or just My Documents, My Pictures and the Desktop. You can change this later. This step may take a few minutes.

When this process is finished you should see all your folders on the left, and the photos on the right. If the folder / photos you want to upload are not listed then select File > Add folder to Picasa > from the top menu, navigate to your folder and follow the steps to add the photos.

Click the photo you want to upload from the right hand side, it should look something like this :

It is always a good idea to Crop the photo if there is lots of 'background' you don't want. So, select the 'Crop' option at the top left. You can then click and drag with your left mouse button a rectangle over the area to you want to keep. It will look like this :

You can select 'Preview' to see if you are happy - once you are select 'Apply'. This has now cropped the photo (not the original, just your working copy at this point). There are other options on the left you can play with to adjust the brightness / colours etc if you need to.

Next we need to resize the image to a suitable size for these forums (both file size and the physical dimensions).

Select the 'Edit' menu and chose 'Export Picture to Folder...'

Browse to the folder you want to save the photo to - perhaps a new folder called 'WeddingForums' to keep it simple. As long as this is a different folder to the one the original file is, no changes will be made to that original file. Make sure the 'Resize to' option is selected and type 400 into the 'pixels' box. Click 'OK'.

You now have a cropped, resized and shrunken [file size] image that will easily upload to these forums.

UPLOAD THE CROPPED/SHRUNK IMAGE

To attach the file use the Attachments options below where you type your reply. Simply browse to the folder you saved the image into and select the image, then click 'UPLOAD'.

Attached File  attachments_browse.jpg   19.57K   0 downloads

Then click the 'Manage Current Attachments' and click the green plus to add the photo into your post.

Attached File  attachments_add.jpg   20.28K   0 downloads

It will then appear in your post :)

If you have specified the folders for Picasa to look for your photos they will automatically appear within Picasa once you have downloaded them from your camera - so you can simply select, crop, save/resize and upload to your hearts content :)

That's it!!

Anything not clear let me know.... if you get it to work, also let me know!

* By using this link a small payment is paid to the forums, which helps us to pay the bills :) You may want to 'right click' and choose top open the site in a new window/tab so that this page is still here

When you add your attachments you will see a message that tells you how much space you have left for images within the post itself, as well as the maximum size of any single image.

Attached File  attachments.jpg   20.06K   1 downloads

If you are having trouble uploading images make sure that the image size is less than both the available space left and the maximum single upload size.
