In Topic: Some Questions For You Guys About Wedding Photography
16 February 2012 - 09:09
Do you shop by price first and foremost or will you stretch your budget for photography?
I think budget first to get a 'short-list' within our range, then take a closer look at each. I think any aspect can have it's budget shrunk or stretched, it's all a balancing act. I certainly would not put 'photography' into a 'do not exceed budget' list.
Or would you prefer to stretch your budget for another part of your wedding?

If you booked at a wedding fayre, did you intend to or did you think you would shop around more?
Never went to one.
What would you like to see from a photographer at a fayre - albums, framed prints? Slide shows?
Touch screen galleries of *lots* of photos from *lots* weddings. Showing me your 'best' 2-3 albums, or 'best' 50 photos from lots of weddings is not enough. Invite me to look and do not under any circumstances be pushy or start telling me how great you are - let your work do the talking!
Have you ever gone to a wedding fayre intending to book a photographer?
Never went to one. We do have a principle of never booking anything 'on the spot' - no matter how good the deal may seem. Saying to me "book now for a 15% discount, not available after today" just makes me think of double glazing salesmen and desperation. If your work is quality you should not have to discount it. Earn my respect be giving me your prices and sticking to them. If I want to pay less, then you can offer me a smaller package.
How did you find your photographer?
From a friends wedding the year before.
Any other thoughts along these lines? We're doing lots of wedding fayres this year and any inside info is useful.
Some people may have the opposite view re: discounts.. in that if you don't offer any they may see you as stubborn and inflexible, so canvas more opinion!
