Wedding List Charity Donations
Couples, particularly those that have been living together for a period of time find that they prefer to have some form of donation given in their name
rather than opt for a wedding present for themselves.
There are so many charities and worth while causes out there that can benefit from this type of generosity and this article will give you just a couple of hints on how you can opt for the one that suits you and your partner the best. Perhaps there is a charity that is close to your heart that has helped you or a family member in the past and by giving a charity donation it will help fund that charity for a longer period of time.
How it Works
Some fundraisers encourage a couple to produce their own webpage where they can add photographs and personal messages. They can then send the link to family and friends who can, if they wish, make donations online. A lot of charities seem to be using this type of format for their donation lists as more and more people are getting online and using online banking as a standard format.
Firstly you should ask yourself why do I want to donate to this charity, is there a specific reason? If there is, let your guests know what that reason is, people are more likely to agree to donate if they know the reason behind it all. Then you should discuss if you have a target amount that you want to aim for remembering that everyone will donate different amounts so you should be reasonable in your target. Lastly, add your donation web link onto your invitations if they haven't gone out already.
Be sure to check if your chosen charity has any 'fees' included into your donation list as some take off a small charge towards admin costs of your final total donated.
Charities Available
There are of course plenty of other charities that always need donations, both large and small, that will benefit from this kindness. Charities range
in their fields too from fundraising for people whether it is disease or victim support, raising money for animals and species in danger, disaster
relief charities, the homeless and of course children. A few examples of the many Charities all over the world that you can look into include:
- British Heart Foundation : Is a well known charity that raises money towards research for heart disease as well as money to look after those with heart conditions.
- Cancer Research UK : Known worldwide they are an independent company which has its own charity donation list called 'Give in Celebration'.
- ChildLine : A telephone (and online) facility for children up to aged eighteen that can provide counselling twenty four hours a day and will deal with any sensitive issue.
- Marine Conservation Society : For sea lovers who love the ocean wildlife and the surrounding waters and shore lines.
- Oxfam : Founded in 1942 in Oxford this charity is known in over one hundred countries and works to resolve destitution and prejudice.
- RSPCA : Working to keep pets and wild animals in a safe environment.
Whilst these types of gift donations are increasing in popularity, this is of course not everyone's cup of tea and even some guests may object to giving donations rather than buying gifts but it is the bride and groom's prerogative to make this choice. One couple chose to elect for their guests to give donations to Cancer Research UK as the groom's father had passed away years before from Cancer, this is just one example of how the choice is completely personal to the person or couple.
Whether you donate to your favourite charity on a regular basis or not, this is a great alternative to wedding gifts, some that will be unwanted and will stay in the box or attic for a number of years. If you and your partner have been living together for a while, why not consider this form of gift list in your wedding plans? How selfless and wonderful to let someone else benefit from your special day!
