Graceland Wedding Chapel
Graceland Chapel in the Woods - Lovers of Elvis, or those who are looking for a ‘different’ wedding, can get married in the quaint old fashioned chapel which is adjacent to the Graceland Mansion. Ever since the chapel was opened in the early 90’s, scores of couples have held hands whilst saying their wedding vows in the Graceland Wedding Chapel in the Woods.
With guests sitting on antique church pews, vows are exchanged in front of a replica stained glass window that is over the front door of the late Elvis Presley’s beloved home Graceland’s Mansion.
There is a reception area at the back of the chapel which includes a hand painted mural of the late ‘King’s’ home making a great showcase for your wedding cake background, as well as being a perfect backdrop for any photographs. Certain special touches gently remind you of where you are and who once lived there.
The wedding chapel can hold up to 50 guests and if you don’t fancy holding your celebrations inside, there are facilities to hold an outside reception barbecue with meals of southern fried chicken, soul food, catfish stew and pork all made from the recipes of Elvis’s mother.
The Graceland Wedding Chapel in the Woods offers all the amenities and services you would expect from a much larger venue and the chapel adds a complimentary private dressing room for the bride to relax and get ready for her special day. This dressing room is just a short walk away from the chapel and is shaded by stately trees and lush landscaping.
Elvis and his Beloved Home of Graceland
The name Graceland is based on its history of the Grace Toof’s family who once owned the property for well over a century. Elvis Presley purchased the mansion for $100,000 when he was just 23 years.
Elvis Presley and his parents moved into Graceland in 1957 and decided to paint it in a glowing blue and gold. His parents added a chicken coop along with a vegtable patch and improvements to the property saw it grow from 10,266 to 17,552 square feet. Rooms varied from 18 to 23 while Elvis kept remodelling his own personal castle. All three were to spend the rest of their lives in the mansion.
Born to parents Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two bedroomed humble house in Tupelo, Mississippi Elvis Aaron Presley was to bring a new style of music known as Rock-n-Roll to millions of young people worldwide. He started his legendary singing career with Sun Records in Memphis as a teenager and went on to sell billions of records.
With his striking handsome looks, sensuality and charisma, he was loved by millions and the joy he brought to many generations is shown in the way his devoted fans still remember him 40 years after his death.
Pricilla Presley has been the force behind opening the Graceland estate to the public in 1982, turning the mansion into a museum for those fans who wish to remember Elvis and see how he once lived. Visitors from all over the world to the estate can reach as high as 600,000.
After numerous weddings were held in the visitor’s centre across the road from the mansion, as well as the response to hundreds of requests over the years for additional services, the Graceland Wedding Chapel in the Woods was built neatly tucked away and nestled within the woods just a few yards away from the main house.
