Bride and Groom get Married 180 Feet in the Air

Chris Griffin and Kathryn Osteen won a free seven day honeymoon cruise when they entered the 2009 Wedding Olympics in Australia last week.

Brides and grooms-to-be battled it out for the prize of the honeymoon cruise with a contest of skills and a general quiz that related to weddings.

The first event on the agenda was a garter and bouquet throwing contest followed by couples cutting the wedding cake and seeing who could eat the most.

Maria Gonzalex and Zachariah Sepulveda who were among the hopeful contestants won that round with eating more wedding cake than the other couples. "Oh my gosh I feel like I'm going to throw up. It's so good but it's so sweet," said Gonzalez.

Men were then blindfolded and had to wear high heels to enter the 'hands-on-a-dress' competition. This was one time when they really had to know the ladies very well.  Chris Griffin said "I got big feet so I don't think this is going to work very well so I think I'm at a disadvantage."

Ladies had to write down a list of questions for the men to answer while still taking part in the 'hands-on-a-dress' venue and to see who answered the most correct answers in ten minutes.

Zachariah Lost by Taking Hand of Wedding Dress

At this time of the competition was neck and neck between grooms-to-be Zachariah and Chris but when Zachariah took his hand off the dress it was all over and Chris was declared the winner.

When asked what they thought about winning the honeymoon cruise, Chris replied with "I think that will have a lot to do with when we set the date."

Other couples who were not as fortunate said they had really enjoyed it and it had been a great experience, even though they did not win.

One potential bride Jerrica Lutz said ""I never thought I'd do anything like this before, like eat cake, have him feed me cake and have it shoved in my face. I never thought I'd do that."

The 2009 Wedding Olympics in Australia is held every year and a massive hit with couples hoping to win prizes.  In just 18 months they have awarded dozens of prizes worth over a quarter of a million dollars to brides and grooms  These include wedding receptions, wedding cakes, diamond rings, wedding dresses, photography packages and honeymoons.

Lucky couples indeed and a great sounding potential competition for couples in the UK!
