Supermarket giants, Asda are well known for their low cost ‘George’ clothing collection, but they have surpassed themselves this week by launching their new range of budget wedding dresses.
The wedding dresses, at a cost of £60, will be available on our selves in time for Valentines Day.
Low cost dresses could be the kick-start the wedding industry needs to help boost its trailing numbers as more couples choose to cohabit, rather than tie the knot. Who can blame a bride to be for opting for an Asda dress when a recent Mineral poll showed the average cost of a wedding dress now at £826.
Asda's New Wedding Collection
Asda budget wedding dresses are part of their new wedding collection where they claim they can dress both the bride and groom for under £200. The collection also extends to bridesmaid dresses for £30 and pageboy outfits from under £20.
Angela Spindler, George’s global managing director has said: "You've heard of fairytale weddings well we think that most wedding dresses are being sold with a fairytale price tag. With the introduction of our new bridal collection all that is set to change."
"No other retailer in the UK will offer such great value without compromising on design or quality. A wedding dress for just £60, I can hardly believe it myself."
Fashion designer Jeff Banks however, doesn’t share the same enthusiasm, as he viewed the collection as more of a gimmick as he told the Mail: "Brides spend years planning their weddings these days and the dress is the central part."
What’s your opinion on the low cost wedding dresses? Would you be prepared to wear one for your Big Day?
