Bride and Groom Tasered by Police at Their Wedding
Getting married can give you the experience of being ‘blown off your feet’ but one bride and groom were literally blown off their feet when trouble broke out at their wedding reception and police used a Taser gun after being called out to calm down the rowdy guests getting out of hand.
Newlyweds Andy and Ania Somora were enjoying their reception as man and wife after saying their vows on the beach at Lakeside in Michigan, with 100 guests huddled under umbrellas to keep them dry.
They had chosen to get married at the dune filled beach because they had spent a lot of happy times there. The ceremony had gone without a hitch and was every bit the dream wedding they had hoped for.
Reception Held at Nearby Art Gallery
The trouble started later on while the reception was being held at a nearby art gallery. One of the guests, had gone overboard with his drinking, decided to throw a metal lamp through the gallery window, smashing it to pieces.
The gallery owner, Tom Burnison, had called the police and his wife had tried to calm things down and break up the party, but felt things were now getting out of control.
The lone duty officer arrived and quickly called for backup when the crowd began to turn ugly.
Most of the guests left at this stage but some wanted to carry on with the party and began shouting and swearing at the police officers.
Groom Mike became angry and had to be held back while shouting at police “What are you doing? This is my wedding! You’re making my wife cry!”
He broke free of those holding him and ran towards the officers while at the same time his bride moved closer to him and tried to intervene. Police at this stage used the Taser on Mike and because Ania was holding him they were both shocked by the Taser and fell to the floor.
Wedding Night Spent Apart
Bride and Groom were then arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing. They were taken to the police station and spent their wedding night apart, in separate holding cells with complete strangers.
Family members were also arrested and were released after pleading guilty and paying fines. The man responsible was ordered to pay $75 for the lamp that he threw through the window.
Bride Ania was fined $600 after a guilty plea, which reduced her sentence but groom Mike has still to be sentenced on 15 September and could face time in jail as well as paying a fine.
Taser Gun Used Again Two Nights Later
Two nights after the nightmare reception police were called to the newlywed’s home in response to a telephone call from a neighbour with a noise complaint.
Andy and Ania were again arrested, fought with police and the Taser gun was used on them for the second time.
Ania had been pushed down the stairs during an argument with Andy but charges were later dropped as part of a plea bargain.
All of this had gone on in the presence of children and grandparents who were clearly upset and traumatised by the drunken few who ruined what should have been a fairytale wedding
