Bride Chases Man Who Hit Wedding Car

Newly married Mr and Mrs Mabbett were on their way from the church to their venue to attend their reception where family and friends were waiting to help them celebrate their wedding.  When their wedding car, complete with ribbons and bows, stopped at amber traffic lights, they were forcefully rammed into from the back

The two cars pulled in around the corner to get out of the flow of traffic and the chauffeur who was a friend of the bride and groom, and also the owner of the car, approached the vehicle that had hit them to ask the driver where his licence was.

The man behind the wheel was clearly very drunk and would only say “I’m a criminal, I’ll pay you now” Rhiannon Mabbett was to tell the Police when they showed up later.

The ‘incoherently drunk’ man then started up his car engine and tried to drive forward, almost ruining the brides dress by running over it.

Feisty bride Rhiannon saw red and reached in to grab the man’s car keys to stop him doing any more damage and to stop him driving off.  At this stage, the man decided if he could not drive, he would just walk off, and got out of the car.

Newly Married Rhiannon in Full Pursuit of Drunken Driver

Mrs Mabbett was at the time on her mobile phone talking to the police and when she mentioned to them that he was trying to get away, they told her to follow him.   She then followed in full pursuit dressed in her wedding outfit with flowers clutched in one hand and the mobile in the other.

After he ducked into a bottle shop and noticed that she was following him, he began to run up the road.  All the while bystanders thought it was hilarious and made no attempt to help.  Rhiannon finally caught up to the ‘runaway driver’ in a dark alleyway, by which time her husband had managed to catch up to her.  He led the police to the alley-way where they arrested him after finding him crouching in a corner.

The groom had tried to stop his new bride from chasing after the drunk driver but the bride said in his defence "He was pulling me back, but the cops were telling me to go after this guy."

An unnamed man who was arrested and charged with drink driving was also found to have had a previous conviction and had in fact already been disqualified from driving.

Thankfully nobody was hurt and the only ‘damage’ was a slight mark on the wedding dress – and probably the husband’s pride in watching his new bride chase another man down the road just moments after she promised she would ‘love, honour and obey’.
