16-OCT-2005 | Desperate housewives to get married (well, one of them)
Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross is set to marry her fiancé, stockbroker Tom Mahoney, in a Christmas Eve wedding. The wedding is expected to take place in Marcia native Marlborough, Massachusetts, according to their friends.
Marcia, who plays the redheaded neurotic Bree Van De Kamp in the hits series 'Despertae Housewives', is thought to have incensed her co-stars including Eva Longoria and Terri Hatcher, by not inviting them to the wedding.
A close friend of the couple told the News of the World: "Tom wants a quiet, private ceremony and that means there will be no invites for the girls. Marcia has agreed. This will be their day and she knows one or two of them would delight in upstaging her even at her wedding."
This will be the first marriage for Marcia and Tom, 47, and has put an end to speculation that Marcia might be a lesbian. The rumours had been heightened as Marcia had posed naked in a gay magazine earlier this year.
Marcia was reported to have responded to the media after having being ‘outed’ by saying: “Well, it is what comes of being 42 and single. I don’t know if they just needed to find a reason why I wasn’t married”.
It is amazing that in modern times women still can't wait until she is good and ready before taking the leap into marriage, without the media speculating that they might be gay. All celebrities have a right to a private life when it comes to their sexuality, unless they choose to openly flaunt it, at which point they become fair game for the media.
The couple started dating for six months and have seen the relationship blossom.
From everyone at WeddingChaos we wish Marcia and Tom every success in their forthcoming marriage.
