Dream Wedding Cancelled by Mistake
After months of planning their dream wedding and travelling thousands of miles to Mexico, a couple were devastated to hear that it had been cancelled by mistake. Anne Campbell and Sam Gilford paid £4,969 to travel agents Thomson Worldwide on top of an extra £795 to the Riu Yucatan Hotel in Playacar, Cancun for their wedding package.
The hotel informed the couple just two days before their wedding was due to take place that they could find no record of the booking and Thomson Worldwide admitted they had accidentally cancelled the wedding.
The shattered bride spent the day sobbing in her hotel room. On what should have been one of the happiest days of their life, the sounds of other brides and groom who were enjoying their ceremonies and receptions could be heard.
Anne and Sam, who are expected a baby in the summer had to decline the offer of alternative dates for their wedding to be held on the following Saturday or Monday, due to the fact that none of their families or friend would have been able to attend.
Because they were so upset over the incident, the unhappy couple cut short what should have been their dream honeymoon and went home 2 weeks earlier than intended.
The Homecoming Reception
They had planned, organised and booked a wedding reception to be held in their home town of Fort William on their return as Mr and Mrs Gilford, for all those family and friends who were unable to join them and share their day with them. This unfortunately had to be cancelled as well.
A spokeswoman for Thompson Worldwide said “We appreciate this must have been a very upsetting situation and all endeavours were made to ensure the wedding was re-booked”.
A cheque to the value of £2,226 was sent to them from Thompson which totals the cost of the wedding package and the unused nights at the hotel. This ‘offer’ has been described by Anne and Sam as ‘an insult’ and they have commented that they are not very happy, to the point that they are now considering taking legal action against the company.
Brides and Grooms have more than enough stress when planning a wedding and their special day should be unforgettable with magical memories – certainly not this way!
Take extra care to double check all is well with your hotel plans before you start off on your trip!
