Here comes the brrr-ide!
Bride to be Louise carefully packed her suitcase for her wedding and double checked that her thermals where in there!
No palm trees, tropical flowers or flip flops would be seen anywhere during this wedding as the couple jetted off to Rovaniemi in Finland, accompanied by 17 family members.
They braved temperatures of minus 12C to say ‘I do’ while standing inside a spectacular sculpted ice chapel on the edge of the Arctic Circle and raised their glassed for the toasts in a bar made of ice.
Bride Louise O’Mara first met groom Chris McQuade briefly back in 2001 and they ‘bumped’ into each other 18 months ago, getting engaged within 2 months of meeting up again.
The wedding party took full advantage of their four day stay prior to the wedding by enjoying plenty of snowball fights, having husky rides and even taking trips to visit Santa in his village.
On the day of the wedding Louise arrived at the ice palace where Chris was stood with his thermal socks on waiting for her, on a sleigh pulled by reindeer with white fluffy fur blankets to keep the freezing temperature at bay.
Chris said "It was pitch black when we came out. We rode back to the hotel on a sleigh.
"Everyone gets married somewhere hot, so we just wanted somewhere different."
Now Planning For a Honeymoon in Maldives
The couple who are both from St Helens where Chris 24 is a plumber and Louise 22 an accountancy practice manager plan to thaw out with a honeymoon in the Maldives next month and take full advantage of ‘thawing out’ under the sun.
Now back at home, Louise said "We didn't want to get married over here and Lapland was a really magical place to tie the knot. Me and my dad even enjoyed a trip through the wilderness on a reindeer on the way to the chapel. But I'm afraid it was thermal socks and leggings all round!"
She went on to tell the Star newspaper "All my friends and family were pretty dubious about the idea when I first told them where we were getting married. But they all enjoyed it - it was brilliant. My dad says he can't wait to go back out there now!"
