High Street Wedding Dress Wars

Only a few weeks age the trendy clothing store H&M launched their designer wedding dress range created by the Dutch duo Viktor and Rolf. Wedding dresses priced at £219.99 were soon snapped up by bargain hungry shopper only to be found later appearing on eBay for double the price.

Marks and Spencer's not to be outdone have launched their first ever wedding dress collection with prices starting as low as £59.99. The collection includes five wedding dresses to suit a range of budgets, tiaras and veils, outfits for the groom and bridesmaid's dresses. The store has also been quick to introduce its own range of bridal lingerie, giving brides more reason to shop at M&S.

Why have M&S Entered the Bridal Fashion Industry?

So why have M&S after all this time decided to branch out into the bridal fashion industry? The stores executive Stuart Rose was reported by the Daily Mail to have said: "We dress hundreds of thousands of girls every day, so why not for their wedding day, too? This is a good, affordable offer for our customers."

M&S has been through some troubled time however this year they have seen sales figures continue to grow. Due to its sophisticated advertising campaigns, could M&S new wedding collection lead the company back to its glory days of the 80's, only time will tell.

So who will be the next retailer to launch their own wedding collection, who ever it is the continued price war between retailers is to the advantage of the consumer provided retailers don't skimp on quality, in a bid to justify budget wedding dresses. Asda will be launching their 2010 George Wedding Dress range in May.
