Married for Sixty Years and Renewed Vows Fifty Nine Times

Margaret and John Beauvoisin from Portsmouth, Hants have been married for sixty years and have renewed their wedding vows fifty nine times since saying I Do back in 1948.

The couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in what to them is the normal way of renewing their vows just as they have done each year since being married, apart from 1949 when John was unable to make it back home as he was stationed in Bermuda with the Royal Navy.

Margaret Beauvoisin, 81, told reporters that renewing the vows her and her husband first said to each other over sixty years ago only reinforces our promise to love and care for each other.

When asked what was the secret to their happy married life was, Margaret said, “He loves me and looks after me, she said of the secret to her happy marriage. We have remained faithful and love our family. Unlike my mother I'm a terrible housewife really and not very good at keeping the house clean. But John puts up with that and keeps on loving me and looking after me” she went on to say.

Meeting Was by Accident

They met in a dance hall when Margaret saw John sitting in her chair.  “I went to sit next to him and he got up.  I thought he was asking me to dance”.

“It was by accident really.  He hadn’t really intended to ask me it turns out, but we spent the rest of the night dancing and he saw me home” Margaret said.

Mrs. Beauvoisin added: "I asked what his name was, and he said Oswald. I said 'Do people really call you that?'

"He said his middle name was John, so I said 'I'm going to call you that instead."

Family Celebrates with Diamond Couple

The couple who had walked up the aisle sixty times raised a family of eleven children who have in turn blessed them with twenty three grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Most of them were present to witness Margaret and John take off their wedding rings to be blessed before being placed back onto the same finger that they had been on for sixty years.

Now both in their 80’s the soul mates say there is still magic in the air and they admit to having a lump in their throats as they exchanged rings at the Sacred Heart Church on the day of their diamond wedding anniversary.

Happy Wedding Anniversary to a couple who are so obviously deeply in love and happy to show everybody how much so by having their rings blessed every year.
