Wonderful Weekend of WAG Weddings
The football season may be over, but last weekends WAG weddings has still keep the England team firmly in the spotlight.
Captain, John Terry, kick-off the proceedings last Friday by tying the knot with his girlfriend of 9-years, Toni Poole. The couple exchanged vows at Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Winston Churchill.
Lionel Richie, who was reportedly paid nearly £250,000 to perform some of his classic hits from the 80’s, was heckled by some of the footballing guests.
The former Commodores singer was none to pleased by the crowd’s lack of appreciation as a source reportedly told the Sun: “when he came off stage he moaned to one of the organisers, “I imagine this is what it’s like at a working men’s club”.
Perhaps wedding guests would have preferred the likes of ‘Come on you Blues’ or ‘Footballs Coming Home’.
The couple are rumoured to have sold their wedding photographs to ‘OK’ magazine, which might go someway to paying for there wedding bash which has been estimated to have cost £750,000.
Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville
Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville married his long-term girl friend Emma Padfield. The bride-to-be had been helped along with her wedding plans by pal Victoria Beckham. Gary and Emma were married in Manchester Cathedral and held their wedding reception in an enormous marquee erected in the back garden of Gary’s 17th Century home.
Guests included Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and their partners, along with Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin. Unfortunately David Beckham was unable to put in an appearance as he had been preparing for his last match with Real Madrid.
Gary not to be outdone in the entertainment stakes hired in X-Factor finalist, Ray Quinn who performed his trade-mark repertoire of Motown/Swing classics.
The wedding has been reported to have cost somewhere between £500,000 and £1 million. Both ‘Hello’ and ‘OK’ magazine had been eager to snap up publication rights to the big day but Gary and Toni chose to keep their wedding a private affair.
Liverpool and England midfielder, Steven Gerrard
Liverpool and England midfielder, Steven Gerrard married Alex Curran on the same day at Cliveden House Hotel in Berkshire.
Alex wore a stunning diamond-stud off white dress by the Lebanese fashion designer, now based in Paris. The couple’s daughters Lexie and Lilly Ella were bridesmaids and wore miniature versions. Former team mate, Danny Murphy was Best Man for the day. The guest list included England team mates Michael Owen, Peter Crouch, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher and Wayne Rooney. The couple ended the celebrations by treating guests to a spectacular firework display.
The Gerrard’s wedding was reported to have cost in the region of £500 to £1million and like John Terry they are thought to have signed a deal with ‘OK’ magazine.
Manchester United’s midfielder, Michael Carrick
It was Manchester United’s midfielder, Michael Carrick big day as he exchanged vows with his childhood sweetheart, Lisa Roughead. Michael and Lisa were joined in marriage at St. Peter’s church in Wyndmondham. Robbie Keane was amoug the guests treated to a grand barbeque held at Stapleford Park Hotel in Leicestershire. The Carrick’s were reported to have spent around 250,000 on their nuptials, a friction of the cost of what his England team mates spent.
The WAG weddings were upstaged however by Wayne Rooney and his fiancée Coleen McLaughlin, as they flew VIP style to three out of four of the WAG weddings. First stop John Terry’s, followed by Steven Gerrard's and then finally making it to club mate Gary Neville’s reception.
