War Torn Wedding

An Indian bride and groom were married over a phone last week.

Sufiyan Agarbatiwala was unable to reach the city of Vadodara to be with his bride, as the army had introduced a curfew due to clashes having broken out between Hindu-Muslim groups earlier in the week.

The troubles started after Vadodara Municipal Corporation's (VMC) had demolished a 300-year old mazaar (muslim shrine) to widen a road. A least four people have been reported killed in the unrest, with many more injured when protesters took to the streets.

Reuters UK reported, 21-year old Sufiyan as saying: "We made the best use of the communication network and exchanged vows over the phone"

In a ceremony lasting 20-minutes the couple exchanged their vows over phones which had been wired up to loud speakers so both their families could hear them joined together as husband and wife.

The bride and groom may well have got off to a rocky start and have yet to see each other as husband and wife but lets hope they have the opportunity to celebrate their wedding once they are united.
