    Traditions or Superstitions?

egyptianPart V of our ongoing feature, Wedding Traditions or Just Superstitions, takes a look at a few more wedding traditions and superstitions.

Why did you give your loved one an engagement ring when you popped the question, was it for the same reason as the Ancient Egyptians? Why do you wear your wedding ring on the third finger of your left hand? Are you getting married on a Wednesday, and if not, why not?

If you would like answer to these, and other reasons for the roles people have at a wedding, take a read for yourself.

    Advice Spotlight - Wedding Gloves

wedding glovesTraditionally, gloves were very much part of the brides compilation.  Adding grace, sophistication and elegance and would always be purchased along with the train and veil.

Today’s brides have a somewhat different perspective on choosing gloves to wear on their wedding day and although formal etiquette still recommends that a bride wear gloves as symbol of grace, many opt to do so simply to heighten the image they are presenting, or to pass on the tradition.

If you would like to know more about wearing gloves for your wedding, then read here

    Your Wedding - Your Story

sam and andrewIn this edition we feature the wedding of forum member Sam, to her husband Andrew, in our Your Wedding - Your Story section. Sam and Andrew got married in October this year.

    Wedding Anniversaries Part II

    porcelain

Most people are familiar with Silver and Gold wedding anniversaries, but few are familiar with their origins.

Many historians believe the tradition dates back as far as Medieval Times, with the origins beginning in Germany. Garlands made of silver and gold, representing the couple’s 25th and 50th wedding anniversary, were presented by the husband to his wife to celebrate the event.

This edition we look at those wedding anniversaries between the 11th and 20th years of married bliss...

Why the ornament? You can find out by reading the full article here.
