Fay and Paul's Wedding - 6th October 2007
Fay joined the wedding forums on the 5th June 2007 and told us:
"A big Hello to everyone here. My name is Fay and after 17 years together, and 4 children, my other half and I have decided to get married on the 6th October 2007 (the day we first met was the 6th October 1990 ). It's been a bit of a rush as we only decided 3 weeks ago. I am 34 years old and i'm mad about cows and anything Purple."
Throughout Fay's time on the forum we have shared the build up to the wedding, the highs of finding somebody to make her beautiful purple dress, to the lows of looking like she had sunburn following the application of a mint and tea tree oil face mask just days before the wedding. We also got to share in those things that can only seem like a crisis when you are close to your wedding - ordering a load of purple balloons - but forgetting the gold one!
However, this is not the time to go over the ups and downs of planning her wedding, this is the time for the story of the wedding day to be told. Grab a drink and sit back and enjoy as Fay tells us all about her big day.
Our Wedding Day
Our day started at 4:30am when we got up had about 10 cups of tea whilst we started getting all the stuff we needed for the venue ready. At about 8:30am the kids got up and were all really excited; Kirsty spent most of the morning jumping up and down! At 10:00am we went to our reception venue and spent till 1:30pm decorating. By the time we had finished it looked great :)
We then went back home and started to get ourselves ready. The boys got ready in 5 minutes but I spent at least an hour doing the girls hair... it was then that I suddenly realised I had less than an hour left to get myself ready!
I Couldn't Stop Shaking
At 3:15pm the boys got into their car and went to the town hall. Now, up until this point I was not nervous at all but once I heard the front door shut the nerves kicked in big time!!
I got Lauren (my eldest daughter) to help me get ready as I couldn't stop shaking. My Brother-in-Law was due to pick the girls and I up at 3:30pm but he was running a bit late (trust me to get married on the day England were playing Australia in the rugby). He was only 10 minutes late but I was in such a state by that point I just had to drink a mini bottle of wine!
The car pulled up to the door and looked great with the purple ribbons.
I Lost the Use of My Legs
The journey to the town hall took about 15 minutes and I was starting to feel a bit better, well that was until we pulled up to the town hall itself and I saw 70 people standing outside waiting to see me. At that point I think I lost the use of my legs and had to get Lauren to hold me up.
Paul and I then had to spend about 15 minutes with the registrar going through our details, vows and music. It was during this time that I realised that I had forgotten our CD (DOH!) - luckily the registrar had a copy of Pachelbel's Canon which we could use.
At that point she called my Dad in and took us both into a different room while she seated the guests. Then my dad and I walked into the room arm in arm. The registrar welcomed everyone and started the ceremony. Paul placed the ring on my finger and said his vows perfectly.
I Dropped the Ring!
I started saying my vows and I was so pleased that my voice didn't wobble once but when I went to put Paul’s ring on I was still shaking and I dropped the ring and it bounced off my shoe and ended up on the other side of the room! Luckily Paul managed to find it and after everyone had stopped laughing I was able to place the ring on his finger. I’m sure Paul is never ever going to let me live that down.
After the ceremony we had our photos done and went off to the reception. Everyone said what a great job we had done on the hall and they all love the cake. Our first dance went well seeing as Paul and I hadn't danced together for about ten years.
The rest of the night went great lots of eating, drinking and dancing was done by all. It was a truly perfect day.
