If you are planning on having a winter wedding, then why not consider having a Christmas themed wedding.

By choosing to have a Christmas themed wedding iI would make the whole planning process that much easier as you will already have a seasonal colour scheme to work with.

People normally associate red and green with Christmas, but you don’t have to limit your decorative palette to just these two colours, burgundy, silver, gold, browns and light blue can work just as well to capture the essence of winter.

In each of the sections below you’ll find some great ideas on how to adapt your wedding to a Christmas themed wedding.

Christmas Themed Bride

  • Consider wearing a long white gown which could have faux fur around the trim.
  • Wear a long cloak or cape of rich velvet or brocade in a seasonal colour.
  • Wear faux fur mitts to keep out the cold.
  • If you’re trying to create an ice queen look then consider wearing diamonds or pearls, if you want to create more warmth then wear rubies of emeralds to compliment the rest of your wedding attire.
  • Have a sparkly tiara to capture the Christmas spirit or have a simple headdress made of ivy and holly berries.

Christmas Themed Groom

  • Wear a festive waistcoat, if you’d prefer something a little more subtle then wear a seasonal coloured waistcoat.
  • Use mistletoe or ivy with holly berries for your buttonhole
  • Wear a tuxedo or dinner suit with either red or green cumberland or waistcoat

Christmas Themed Wedding Participants

  • Bridesmaids and flower girls could wear rich red or green coloured dresses, in warm fabrics such as velvet and brocade. If you’d prefer something a little more subtle then why not have a simple white dress with a seasonal coloured velvet sash.
  • The bestman, page boys and ushers could wear matching waistcoats to that of the groom
  • In times gone by flower girls would scatter a trail of flowers before the bride as she walked down the aisle to be beloved, why not give the age old tradition a seasonal twist and have them throw faux snow instead. Use an aisle runner to make the clean up after the ceremony much easier.
  • Have you bridesmaids carry candles instead of posies.
  • Ask the Usher to handout miniature bells which can be rung as you leave the wedding venue as man and wife

  • Add colour to the banqueting tables with pots of poinsettia. They are commonly found in red, however they are also available in white, pink and cream.
  • You could get a seasonal ice sculpture as a centre piece to the top table.
  • If you have a small wedding party for the wedding breakfast consider lighting candles at the table to create an intimate feel.
  • Use Christmas crackers, baubles, or mini stockings for name places.
